Mardi Gras Condom Booth

Hey Guys,

Saturday didn't quite turn out as well as we expected. We were in the shade at first, but later ended up being in the hot sun. We got a few donations, and a lot of students took some condoms, but at the same time a lot of students gave us evil eye for asking if they wanted any. We had to be on the look out for parents because UCF was doing housing tours. No one really wanted to play our basketball game either. But a look on the bright side- we did get a few donations, some information was passed out, a lot of condoms were passed out, and we realized that we're gonna have to do it a little differently the next time we plan on doing it-- which I believe will be by the student union.

Take care and see you Tuesday,
Nichole

I think it was hilarious how the guys going to and from the gym had to confirm with their buddies whether or not they needed condoms -- social forces right before our eyes! Those are the types of social norms that continue to support AIDS in the United States!

Also, the Lead Scholar group seemed to be almost scared away when we mentioned condoms. Is this a smarty-pants stereotype? Are leaders not supposed to have sex or talk about it?

On the other hand, everyone accepted the handout on HIV. Hopefully, people will look that over and be enlightened on the pandemic.
